Expressive Calligraphy with Photography: Portraits in Handwriting
This project was created for the American Heart Association Heart Ball: Heroes of the Heart. It was reproduced in a beautiful book format for the event, which is one of the largest fundraisers held in New York each year. The agency was Cline Davis Mann, art director Rita Caliendo, photographer Sandro. As a lettering designer my job was to express the personalities of the people in the portraits, and the meaning reflected in the text of each photograph. I used many different papers, pens and brushes for this project. The book has been included in the first typography annual of CA and has won numerous awards. This was one of the most fulfilling projects I have ever been invited into: to express the emotional voice of people who have gone through the extremes of life, illness and near-death. A privilege to participate, with a brilliant team.
